My daughter was sent home from school, for pink eye. This would be my first encounter, dealing with this as a parent and my daughter, regrettably, Test Subject No. 1.
I blame the kiddie makeup! Seriously, this stuff sucks and no, I didn’t buy it, it was a gift from a very good friend of mine, who I happen to know didn’t intentionally, mean to cause this horrible chain of events, including, but not limited to, punishing me with pink eye’d child until she is able to go back to school. Then without skipping a beat, this child passes it along to the next, EJ now has it! Think Kadee will follow suit?!
Anyway, I have read many home treatments for this, one being breast milk, but I am no longer lactating and I would find more than uncomfortable asking one of my lactating friends for some expressed breast milk, that and sharing bodily fluids isn’t my cup of coffee.
Back to the treatments, potatoes are a natural astringent and have been said to work….we tried this and it actually seemed to be helping, that along with some erythromyacin, which is an antibiotic.
She said she couldn’t see…
So, I fixed it!
She wanted to take them off, so I bribed her with ice cream, think by her reaction it worked?

I stopped wearing my makeup :{insert scream here}: for fear if I get the pink eye, I will have to buy more makeup. :{insert husband’s scream here}:
So, I took EJ into the peds today, she said it will run its course. I kinda hate it when they say that. I know antibiotics are overused and shouldn’t be prescribed for anything other than whats necessary, but c’mon, that’s not what I want to here when my sons gooey green eye boogers are moving in and making friends with other potential eye victims.

hadn't heard of the potatoes either- – hope your little cutie is better soon!
My recent post The End of Life As We Know It
I have never heard to using potatoes. She sure looks cute with them on.
I love how you drew on the potatoes! So cute. Pink eye is the worst worst worst illness!

I love that you drew eyes on the potatoes. I wonder how she got it from the makeup but my kids didn’t? (Sigh of relief)
She kept using it when she got home, lol. I noticed the red when she was actually applying it to her eyes. I’m not 100% sure it was the makeup, I am just assuming since she shared it and has never had this happen before. ;0)
when my kiddos got pink eye they were given eye drops that helped the process go by faster and it helped a lot idk if my kids had it worse but they did get eye drops hope it runs its course REAL fast
Thanks Lucia, I’m glad they healed fast. We’re definitely hoping the same here! Thanks for reading ;0)
I had a reaction to the antibiotic drops and had to look elsewhere for a cure. Chamomile tea worked wonders for me and it cleared up very quickly!
Thanks! I will have to check into that, had no clue! I hope the reaction wasn’t too bad. I cant imagine one of my kids having one to eye drops, the most sensitive of places!
I''m not an antibiotic over-user either. I really, really believe that it's causing super-bugs. But, I'd definitely use the antibiotic drops for pink-eye! My kids had it once a long time ago. It is not fun. Good Luck with it. Hope everyone is better soon.
I know. Not only that, I didn’t realize pink eye causes headaches, earaches and congestion. She was miserable. I just hope EJ will get through it fast and it wont catch up with Kadee.
Oh..she's cute eventhough her eyes were covered by those potatoes..hehe
Thanks! She thought it was pretty awesome. We called them her potato glasses, lol.
Love the potatoes! Pink eye sucks. I always make the doc give my two scripts, because someone else in the household will get it no doubt. Hope it runs it's course quick!
I know right! I don’t understand why she didn’t give us any. I was shocked, quite frankly. Heres hoping I’m not next, but with all the cuddles, loves, slobbers, snot and kissing boo boos, I feel it coming!
Ok, I'm confused – how does one get pink eye from make up? Were they sharing it or something?
Hi Dustin, Good to see ya reading. ;0)
Children are not good at washing their hands, ever! that being said, when they use or share makeup, it usually causes pink eye. There are so many germs in kiddie makeup, lol. BEWARE.
