Adding “Tooth Fairy” To My Job Description

My eight month old daughter, Kadee, is getting in her first tooth when my six-year-old, daughter, Bethany, is losing hers. Exciting milestones going on over here!

We haven’t had a visit from the Tooth Fairy in this house, yet. I’m kind of excited about this new experience as a parent.

EXPENSIVE TEETH

Times have changed now, when asking my Mom, how much monies I should give Bethany, my sister, Miranda, blurted out “Five dollars!” Whoa, did the cost of teeth go up!? I think five dollars is a little high, but then again, I’m not seasoned in this area, as of yet.

Can’t be hard…right?!

  • Do I keep the teeth and what do I keep them in?
  • How did you do it and how much monies did you leave?
  • Did you leave monies for cavities?
  • What if you forget, fall asleep or get caught!?

I do believe, two to three dollars is more than enough for a six-year-old, she isn’t saving up for a Lamborghini just yet and with three kids, I don’t want to break the bank over teeth. I also think giving zero money for cavities is definitely, in the future of this house. If you think about it, I already paid way too much to the dentist, to be handing out extras. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

As your mom, I think u should take out a loan to pay all 3 kids for their teeth. LMFAO. keep each childs teeth in a separate container. If u forget…..make sure the tooth is in THE right place for the fairy. love u all long time! Merry Christmas<3

I’ve placed my kids teeth in envelopes that are now floating around in our memoir chest, stashed in photo boxes, and who knows where else?! Over the years, when I have forgotten (with six, we’ve been through the lost a tooth things more times than I can count), I have crept in during early morning hours to plant it; I have gone in there, “are you sure it’s not here?” while sneakily pulling it out of the bed crack, “oh it must have fallen while you were sleeping…”, and I even had to convince one of my daughters that the tooth fairy must have Sunday nights off… :) Overall, the tooth fairy has been pretty good at making her appearance though!

I leave $2-$3 for mine, no money for cavities (I have left toothpaste in lieu of money) and my husband got caught by our daughter when she was 9 and jig was up. I’ve decided that our sons will have a special spot that they place their teeth to be picked up, so we don’t run into that issue again. We have also forgotten before (bad mommy!) and I told her that I forgot to call the tooth fairy and schedule the tooth pick up.

On the money issue-do what you are comfortable with. I think it should be enough to make the child feel good, but not enough to prompt a shopping trip. There are a lot o teeth in there.

I have a jar I keep my girls’ teeth in, but I am not sure what I am going to do with it. For now, it sits in a cabinet in my bathroom. I guess eventually it gets tossed.

For forgetting…the first opportunity to forget is to forget to get money. I never have cash on me, so I have to remember to make sure I not only get money, but get something small enough to use. There have been many a late night trip to 7-11.

When you fall asleep and forget to put money under the pillow there are a couple of options:

    1. plant it in the morning.
    2. drop it under the bed and have them look for it
    3. go with “the tooth fairy must have been hungry and left it in the kitchen.”

“Do I keep the teeth and what do I keep them in?” We flushed them.

“How did you do it and how much monies did you leave?Did you leave monies for cavities? ” $5 for the first 1 for the others, nickel for the cavity and a note that says something about needing to brush more.

“What if you forget, fall asleep or get caught!?” they dont go under the pillow here, we use a dish on a dresser or nightstand, If you forget tell them she may not have gotten to your area last night and will most likely come the next night. she’s a lot smaller than santa after all it takes her longer & she has no sleigh.

Maybe I’m cheap, but I only leave a dollar. It is plenty for my 7 year old daughter. Sometimes I do forget , and sometimes she forgets to put it under her pillow. If I forget, I just make something up :-) But no, I wouldn’t leave money for a cavity. That’s just a fact of life I guess.
